The “Literature” collection of the State Collections of Lower Austria was established in 1989 as a documentation center for literature in Lower Austria. In 1988, the Province of Lower Austria acquired the literary estate of W. H. Auden, which is now regarded as the documentation center’s de facto founding acquisition.
The Collection/Main Emphasis
The collections of the documentation center for literature in Lower Austria comprise primary and secondary literature, comprehensive biographical and bibliographic data about the authors, a photography collection, and audio-visual documents. In recent years, these collections were consistently expanded by literary donations and posthumous estate bequests and added to the State Collections of Lower Austria as the “Literature” department.
An extensive library features special literature customized to the collection holdings.
The documentation center of literature in Lower Austria regularly publishes on the holdings of the State Collections of Lower Austria’s “Literature” collection as well as on current research and exhibition projects.
